What if Depeche Mode just wanted to dance?
Intervention Records is thrilled to announce its 30th anniversary vinyl reissues of Erasure's 80's classics Wonderland and The Circus. These two 1st Wave 80's hits are the latest LPs to comprise IR’s ongoing “(Re)Discover Series.”
Wonderland is Erasure's 1986 debut. Produced by Flood, Wonderland is accessible and catchy synth pop, but also sharp, emotionally charged and redolent of heartache. Wonderland delivered massive hits in the UK and the US with radio and club staples like “Oh L’Amour,” "My Heart ... So Blue" and “Who Needs Love Like That.”
The Circus is Erasure's stunning sophomore effort, a powerhouse of infectious synth-pop hooks and soulful vocals. The Circus delivered smash hits “It Doesn't Have To Be,” "Victim of Love" and “Sometimes.”
Erasure is groundbreaking songwriter/synth player Vince Clarke and singer Andy Bell. Prior to forming Erasure, Clarke wrote nearly all of songs on Depeche Mode’s iconic first album, Speak and Spell, before moving on to form Yazoo with Alison Moyet (Yaz in the US). Remarkably Clarke found Andy Bell by placing an ad in a UK newspaper. The flamboyant Bell was among pop’s first openly gay stars, and his high-pitched voice has a soulful power that’s an arresting complement to Clarke’s inspired synth melodies.
Both titles were mastered 100% AAA analog by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from UK-sourced analog tapes- the UK stereo/production master for Wonderland and a 1:1 copy of the original stereo master for The Circus. The bass foundation is fully restored to make these new Intervention reissues the definitive listening experiencefor these classic LPs!
Wonderland will be available in December of 2016 while The Circus will be available in Q1 2017. Each will be a single 33 and will retail for $35. Available for preorder now.
